Operating out of the historic 1927 California Theatre that featured a raked stage and lighting grids suspended over the audience, Opera Theater San Jose was facing strong technical and safety challenges in their outdated venue.

Chicago Flyhouse was called in to design and install focus tracks to allow the crew to safely manage the maintenance and installation of lighting and scenic components. Adding to the challenge of the project, California Theatre is one of the region’s most important performance facilities and houses many touring companies, symphony concerts, and other arts companies. For this reason, the focus tracks needed to be removable and easily portable.

Following design and fabrication, Flyhouse flew out to supervise a local installation crew, resulting in a safe and successful completion of the project.

Flyhouse’s flexible and safe fall protection system has afforded Opera San Jose the ability to better realize its design visions while protecting and preserving the integrity of their historic venue.
