Housed in a space built in the mid-sixties, Village Players Arts Center of Oak Park has a mid-sized semi-thrust proscenium stage with no wing space, relying solely on catwalk grids at the back of the house for its lighting instruments, and with no capabilities for flying effects, or the use of suspended scenic elements.
Flyhouse designed and installed a grid for VPAC that will allow for greater range of production design, rigged scenic and flying effects, and expanded lighting opportunities.
In addition, the new grid contains a custom-designed focus track to allow for the safe and speedy adjustment of equipment and elements attached to the grid – which is suspended over both the stage and the theater’s permanently fixed and sharply raked three-section seating area.
In addition to increased production capabilities, the grid and focus track provides a safe work environment for the theater’s largely-volunteer technical staff and production crews.
