Our crew recently spent time in Little Rock, Arkansas at the historic Robinson Center, home for the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.
After more than eight decades hosting Broadway touring production, musicals, concerts, and more, the venue needed some updates. Specifically, Flyhouse stepped in to provide a supplementary control system to the venue’s existing rigging system.
Flyhouse is among a select few automation companies up for this particular challenge: Typically, a theater looks to replace all components of an aging controls system when an update is needed. Robinson, however, didn’t have the time in their busy schedule or the massive budget required for a total rigging overhaul.
Instead, Flyhouse’s unique controls department stepped in to design-build a system allowing Robinson’s motorized battens to be operated independently, and locally, in the event the main control system is ever not functioning properly.
With this additional control system onstage, operators can easily switch between two onstage systems, keeping their Hard Portals, Side and Center Speaker Clusters, and Lighting Storage battens in use—and under control—at all times.
Upcoming shows at Robinson Center Performance Hall include Arkansas Ballet Presents Swan Lake, John Mellencamp: Live and In Person, an Wheel of Fortune Live.
