The NEW Flyhouse Ease® Control Console, Flyhouse Ease® Handeld Controller, and Flyhouse Ease® Joystick Controller offer sophisticated, synchronized hoist control, allowing for complete show programming … with ease. These innovative new products will be used in several upcoming Flyhouse installations throughout 2022 and beyond.
The Product
The Flyhouse Ease® Control system—an intuitive multi-axis, fully-programmable motion controller—is capable of operating overhead rigging, stage machinery, and more within the same interface. Using intuitive touchscreen and joystick control, users can program and move motorized elements manually or within cue lists. Using a full complement of safety features, theatre operators can rely on smooth, trouble-free stage motion for venue and production motorized elements including battens, point hoists, chain hoists, acoustic banners, motorized curtains, and more.
The Venue
The newest version of our Ease® Control Console will soon be seen at The University of Michigan’s James and Anne Duderstadt Center, a student audio and video lab space used for information technology and digital media, with collaborative spaces for research and creative work. Flyhouse was initially awarded a 3-year inspection contract in 2011 and our partnership has continued since—read more about our work with Duderstadt over the years here.
The Install
Beginning next month, our crews will be back in Ann Arbor, retrofitting the Duderstadt system to install the new Ease® Control Console. This new system allows a series of motors for 18 axes to fly in and out, with all controllers working together seamlessly.
The venue features various sized motorized grids and battens, complete with lighting, projection and audio equipment for student instruction and use. These lighting battens and grids are each designed to be lowered to the floor for easy repositioning/reconfiguring of the AV equipment as needed for a wide range of productions.
The new Ease® Control Console will allow all the new components to work as intended for the existing 18 axes using an automation console, computer and software.
Multiple axes (any number/combination) can be selected to be lowered or raised at one time, with or without optional programmed presets. Each axis will have a new encoder fitted to determine what height or position the grid is at during any point, providing real-time position feedback. Whether the axis is moving or not, users can view the screen to determine each grid’s height.
For additional safety, each axis motor assembly will now include a retrofitted secondary brake. Newer rigging standards require a hoist have an additional back-up brake in case the primary brake fails.
Additional features include:
- A complete visual representation of all 18 axis
- Ease® touchscreen and/or joystick (physical) interaction for equipment to be moved
- Ease® drag and drop functionality—an easy method to allow axes to be added/removed from a preset and/or cue as applicable
- Ease® integrated E-stop
- Ease® ambidextrous joystick controls
