Every week is Women in Construction Week at Flyhouse. Women make up more than 25% of our full-time staff, which is more than double the industry average. This doesn’t include all the women on our part-time and auxiliary staff, contracted for specific projects.
The 24th annual Women in Construction Week kicks off today and is sponsored by The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC). This leading professional association for women in the construction industry promotes gender equality and offers professional development and other resources for women in our industry.
“WIC Week gives chapters nationwide the opportunity to shine a bright light on the construction industry and women’s very important place in it,” said Executive Director Crissy Ingram. “There has long been a culture of construction being only for men. If we can get the women who have worked past that barrier out of the shadows and into the spotlight, they can show other women – no matter the age or background – that there countless opportunities for them in the industry.”
“[WIC Week is vital to] bringing awareness to the great success women are having in every aspect of the industry,” said National President Doreen Bartoldus. “It will also hopefully influence the next generation to join our ranks after seeing construction can be a great career for women.”
At Flyhouse, the women on our team can be found everywhere from our office and leadership team … to the shop, and out in the field. That’s how we fly.
Where in the world are the women in construction? Right here in Chicago!
