Baylor University Foster Pavilion
It’s a new year and a brand new stadium for Baylor University with the grand opening of 7,000+ capacity Foster Pavilion & Development Center in Waco, Texas. The new arena will be used for Baylor Men’s and Women’s Basketball and other events. The project is a win for the university, the Waco community, and for our own Flyhouse team.
Here’s an inside look at all the action:
Acoustical Baffles: Our crews installed both vertical and horizontal baffles for sound absorption. The university’s original plans included a limited number of panels, so we designed and fabricated panels with a 4” thickness verses the standard 2” thickness often used in arenas.
Motorized Truss for Lighting System: With limited budget and a lighting plan that doesn't require constant changes, the venue opted for chain hoist control and two separate 150’ truss spans to support their sport lighting. While the system is not designed to move fast, the hoists allow for permanent installation and have a D8+ 1-ton rating, meeting overall system capacity and safety requirements.
Blackout Curtain Motorized Truss System: As another cost savings measure, the venue installed a separate chain hoist and truss system for a blackout curtain system. All of the rigging equipment and control were installed now during the construction, then in the coming months, as budget and facility use allows, additional drapery can be ordered and installed.
Vomitory Curtains: Flyhouse closed out this phase of the project by providing a series of tracks and blackout curtains for the venue's vom openings. Foster’s rigging includes over 1000’ of track and 40 drapes to mask each vomitory from ambient concourse light and maximizing lighting control for video broadcast.
The Baylor Men's Basketball team beat Cornell 98-79 earlier this month in their first game in the new stadium. Go Bears!
