Our friends at USITT are kicking off its 65th Annual Conference & Stage Expo in Columbus, Ohio this Thursday. The USITT25 - Powering Live Entertainment event supports the organization’s mission: The United States Institute for Theatre Technology, Inc. (USITT) connects performing arts design and technology communities to ensure a vibrant dialog among practitioners, educators, and students.
Several thousand are expected to attend the conference, including a strong showing by the Flyhouse family. Read on for some of our plans this week.
Gruber will be participating in USITT’s Stage Management Mentor Project, connecting professional stage and production managers with student mentees for a week full of practical training experiences at the conference's most high-profile events. Gruber has been involved in this project for over 20 years, as both a student and a mentor, and is just one way Chicago Flyhouse helps give back to the national theatrical community.
Becca is presenting a session, along with Jon and Brian, about making a shop-built destructive testing rig. Their session will cover material options, strength, and forces, and will include demonstrations.

And Ed will be teaching a sold-out rigging class, for the third year in a row. He will also spend time on the conference floor, reconnecting with old friends and ready to spark new relationships. Here's what Ed has to say—and don't hesitate to find him on the floor!
"I love going to USITT because it lets me do a bunch of things I love to do: teaching rigging to folks from varied backgrounds, seeing old friends from around the industry, hearing smart people talk about interesting things, and meeting new people.”
We look forward to seeing you there!
