We’re south of Grand Rapids, Michigan, at Gun Lakes Casino Resort this month.
Flyhouse was originally brought into the project to install a custom aircraft cable support system in the soon-to-open The Wawyé Oasis. This 32,000 sf glass atrium space will be used for swimming and general entertainment throughout the day and in the evening, the space will transform to host live entertainment and concerts.
To support its acoustical goals, the venue decided to purchase a deployable acoustic absorption product that can be easily installed and removed as needed. To achieve that flexibility, Flyhouse will be installing the 39 discreet cables this week, each one spanning nearly 130’ across the atrium to support the AqTubes whenever the venue determines the added acoustic absorption is needed for events.
While we were busy preparing for this work, we were also asked if we could assist the project with a different challenge—with a tighter timeline to ensure that other trades will continue to meet the overall schedule.
Leaning into our expertise in design and custom fabrication, Flyhouse quickly accepted the challenge. In the past few weeks, we were able to fabricate and install 18 different custom lighting positions that surround the unique curve along the interior perimeter. To make this work even more complicated, each assembly is a different length, each required custom cantilever brackets, and each position is located in an area that is difficult to reach without a very specific lift being positioned in exactly the right spot.
Gun Lakes Casino Resort is expected to debut The The Wawyé Oasis in early May, completing Phase 5 of the venue's $300 million expansion project.
Providing extraordinary solutions is always a safe bet—that’s how we fly!
