The Monument—originally called Rushmore Plaza Civic Center and Rushmore Plaza—opened in Rapid City, South Dakota in the fall of 2021. This 500,000-square-foot complex houses exhibition, convention and multi-sport performance spaces.
Flyhouse designed, fabricated and installed its brand new Arena Curtain Masking System onsite to mask out the balcony seating level with four curtains, hoists, and custom Flyhouse control. Our work also included a half-house curtain system. This system gives The Monument additional flexibility within the venue and was specifically designed to allow for both small and large events, with minimal time required to mask certain areas.
In addition, Flyhouse installed baffles in the high steel, and track and curtain on four floors for the vomitory, clubs, locker rooms, and suites.
Flyhouse was awarded the job in 2020 for a basic curtain package. About halfway through the project, the scope changed and we were asked to pivot and include the customized curtain systems. Despite the ongoing pandemic and supply chain issues, we were able to finish on schedule even with the new scope. That’s how we fly!
The Monument is home to the Rapid City Rush hockey team, the Rapid City Marshalls indoor football team, Rapid City Rodeo, concerts, and more.
