In order to manage light control requirements of the NCAA Final Four, Chicago Flyhouse Inc. installed nearly seven miles of fabric at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn ahead of the championship games.
Flyhouse partnered with Rose Brand to fabricate inherently flame retardant synthetic velour, which Flyhouse hung around the perimeter of the 1.75 million square foot venue. The lightweight blackout liner and pewter-colored fabrics were selected to draw minimal attention to curtain systems used throughout the stadium.
One curtained section required a drape that measured over 63,000 square feet—enough to cover 14 basketball courts.
Flyhouse also designed and fabricated a proprietary and fully networked chain hoist control system, which reduces the overall cable and power requirements at the stadium. The semi-permanent motorized truss system gives U.S. Bank Stadium an easy-to-use lightweight control system for future events.
“We are honored to work with U.S. Bank Stadium and the NCAA Final Four on such an iconic national sports event,” says Flyhouse founder Mark Witteveen. “This is an example of what Flyhouse does best: taking unusual requests and impossible problems and turning them into extraordinary solutions.”
The entire project took approximately eight months and required custom design drawings, system mock-ups, and engineering review.
Flyhouse was also contracted by the Minnesota Sports Authority to add an additional 67,000 square feet of acoustic drapery to improve the stadium’s sound quality for upcoming events.
