Flyhouse is often called in to work with design teams, bringing our expertise in light control and acoustic solutions to large scale spaces. This spring, we were back at John G. Shedd Aquarium, maintaining the light control to Chicago’s historic facility.
When we first installed the system in 2009, Shedd's was one of the largest motorized curtains in the world in its Abbott Oceanarium along Lake Michigan.
The Shedd welcomes 2 million visitors each year and performs multiple shows per day in the oceanarium. The curtain system is in continuous use, serving a unique solution to transition the space for their Animal Spotlights experiences, offering excellent light control and acoustic absorption. And after so many years of sunlight and constant use, it was time to provide a new blackout liner. The Shedd’s team and Flyhouse collaborated on a highly coordinate schedule, so that the liner replacement did not impact any of Shedd’s programming—and more importantly, the mammals that call Shedd their home. The updated blackout liner will keep the curtain system operational for years to come.
We love getting into a project early, allowing us time to collaborate with design teams. That allowed us to bring more unique light and acoustic control solutions to venues like Allegiant Stadium, U.S. Bank Stadium, and Moody Center.

Our friends at Shedd once told our Flyhouse crew: "The combination of your skills and service are killer!” We’re pretty sure they weren’t talking about whales. That’s how we fly.
